A Family Tradition Turned Modern Heirloom

More than sixty years ago, my grandfather, Stewart Simonson, was searching for the perfect anniversary gift for my grandmother, Mary Jane Simonson. While living in Puerto Rico, he discovered a meaningful Cuban tradition: gifting solid gold bangles to mark life’s most important moments.

Inspired by the symbolism behind the tradition, he began giving my grandmother a gold bangle every year for their anniversary. What started as a simple gesture became a lifelong ritual — one that represented love, commitment, and the moments that shape a life together.

Year after year, the collection grew.

After Mary Jane passed away, my grandfather searched for a way to honor both her memory and the tradition they had built together. He gifted her bangles to their five children, hoping each family would continue the custom in their own way.

That decision became the foundation for what would later become Yearly Co.

How Yearly Co. Began

For years, our family struggled to find high-quality gold bangles that felt timeless enough to carry on the tradition. I wanted pieces that were meaningful, beautifully made, and designed to be worn every day — not tucked away for special occasions.

So while pregnant with my second daughter, I enrolled in a metalsmithing class at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

What started as curiosity quickly became an obsession. I spent months learning how to handcraft solid 14k gold bangles myself, studying the process piece by piece until I could create the kind of jewelry I had been searching for all along.

That journey became the beginning of Yearly Co., a jewelry brand rooted in tradition, craftsmanship, and celebrating the moments that matter most.
